Describe your nominated work: A self induced declaration of 30 years of one man’s desperate chase of
romantic love in 2 cds.
Why did you choose to submit this work to The 10th IMA’s? i thought it was worthy &, well, extremely independent.
Did you use any unusual effects or instruments in this recording? My cat had a bell on his collar- its’ sound shows up throughout the project as i recorded at home.
Were there any happy accidents while in the studio, or did everything go as planned? Recording is always an accident. I use & edit the accidents into a whole accident.
Did fans help you fund this project? not directly
Who’s sitting in your audience? At this moment, my cat
What makes your fans unique? They like good music, i think…
Are there any songs you wish you wrote? “Imagine” & “4 Dead in Ohio”
What artists are you listening to that would surprise your fans? My audience would not be surprised by much…
What is your dream show lineup? Ray Charles, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, & Bessie Smith
What are your guilty pleasures on the road? Art museums & the best food i can find.
Any close calls or mishaps while on tour? I once fell to the floor on stage but landed so the guitar was held up so that i wouldn’t crush it
Do you have any rituals before you go on stage? To continue breathing…
Should music be free? It already is free – and the writers/artists should be paid for their works
so they can live & raise a family if they choose to (duh)
How has digital affected your career? It has made an audio standard (red book) that has not broadened in 25 years or more – yet we persist in the face of such tyranny.
Are digital singles vs. full albums the future of music? I hope not.
Finish this sentence: The music industry is… complicated.
