DESCRIBE YOUR NOMINATED WORK: It was actually an assignment for school. I attended The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (aka The Paul McCartney School) and was given an assignment to cover a song in my own style. The decision to cover “Low” was because a good friend of mine had always wanted to hear me sing it…so I did.

DID YOU USE ANY UNUSUAL EFFECTS OR INSTRUMENTS IN THIS RECORDING? Everything, besides the vocals and acoustic guitar were midi instruments. It’s easy and fun. I must admit, I never used midi again after recording this song.

WERE THERE ANY HAPPY ACCIDENTS IN THE STUDIO, OR DID EVERYTHING GO AS PLANNED? It was so long ago…I do remember recording it in the middle of the night. All the studios were rented out and I, like always, decided to wait till the last minute to record it. So we had to finish the song in 4 hours from 1am-5am. This is the reason I did all the midi tracks at home before going into the studio.

DID FANS HELP YOU FUND THIS PROJECT? It was fully funded by the school. Yay.

WHO’S SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? Lots of different people. There is always a wide variety of folks of different ages, and different backgrounds. People who really love music and party and dance (especially people in Saskatoon, no one knows how boogie like people in Saskatoon) to old folks who just sit and enjoy to little kids (depending on the venue).

WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? Most of my fans aren’t scenesters. They get into music that touches them as opposed to what’s popular.

ARE THERE ANY SONGS THAT YOU WISH YOU WROTE? Nope. I dig the ones I wrote. In fact, I like to take songs that I think are written really well but produced in a style I don’t really get into, and redo it my way.

WHAT ARTISTS ARE YOU LISTENING TO THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? My fans are pretty musically diverse like I am. I’m not sure if anything would surprise them. Maybe all the industrial music I listen to.

WHAT ARE YOUR GUILTY PLEASURES ON THE ROAD? Not sleeping. I love traveling so when I’m on tour, I have to check out each place which ultimately leads to no sleep.

ANY CLOSE CALLS OR MISHAPS WHILE ON THE ROAD? Nope. I’ve been lucky.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS BEFORE YOU GO ON STAGE? I like to be alone before a performance.

SHOULD MUSIC BE FREE? Yes. Free and funded by the government. So us musicians should be paid a flat rate to do what we do and in turn, we keep the people happy and entertained.

HOW HAS DIGITAL AFFECTED YOUR CAREER? It makes it easier to record your music, but harder to promote it.

ARE DIGITAL SINGLES VS. FULL ALBUMS THE FUTURE OF MUSIC? Sadly, I think so. I do miss albums and I plan to keep making them.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS … corrupt.
