WHAT’S THE MEANING OF YOUR BAND NAME? The name Selasee and The Fafa Family translates to Selasee and The Peace family, a west African name.

DESCRIBE YOUR NOMINATED WORK: The nominated work titled “Saidaway” means ‘hear my voice,’ was composed around the ‘palmwine guitar’ style that originates from Ghana, West African.this finger picked guitar rhythm which is heard in the intro of the song. It has a fun uplifting sound generated from the rhythm and melody from the guitar intro.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT THIS WORK TO THE 10TH IMA’S? I chose to submit this particular work due to the constant reaction we receive from audiences each time we start the song, the audience seem to get charged up when this song starts.

DID YOU USE ANY UNUSUAL EFFECTS OR INSTRUMENTS IN THIS RECORDING? Not really in terms of sound, more so on rhythm arrangements which seem difficult to grasp at first, the only unique is the guitar rhythm style intro.

WERE THERE ANY HAPPY ACCIDENTS WHILE IN THE STUDIO, OR DID EVERYTHING GO AS PLANNED? Yes,since we played this song many times live,it just went as planned as the song was already established from many live shows.

DID FANS HELP YOU FUND THIS PROJECT? Yes, I had some home based funs who got us studio time and even the album cover was designed by some loyal local fun.

WHO’S SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE? From College audience to random people who have seen us live during past summer festivals and local clubs mostly on the western states of the US.

WHAT MAKES YOUR FANS UNIQUE? We believe it’s the broad spectrum of people of all ages unlike other bands that have a set age group that their music appeals to.

ARE THERE ANY SONGS YOU WISH YOU WROTE? Usually when i come across a good song that is inspiring,I usually get inspired to write something similar, I have gotten that from some songs from India Arie.

WHAT ARTISTS ARE YOU LISTENING TO THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOUR FANS? Old school music like Nat King Cole and Tonny Bennet old school big band music.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM SHOW LINEUP? i remember how we were invited to play during the inaugration of President Obama and got cancelled the last minute even though we were payed half the money already, playing at such memorable events is our dream.

WHAT ARE YOUR GUILTY PLEASURES ON THE ROAD? Lots of Ben and Jerry’s believe it or not!

ANY CLOSE CALLS OR MISHAPS WHILE ON TOUR? Knock on wood, nothing significant so far!

DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS BEFORE YOU GO ON STAGE? i try getting a good rest before a show which ensures my vocal quality to be right there, and a little buzz 15 minutes before getting on stage seems to work every time.

SHOULD MUSIC BE FREE? I don’t think so.

HOW HAS DIGITAL AFFECTED YOUR CAREER? Not much since we hardly use digital sounds and effects, except smaller gigs where we sometimes use a looping machine on rear occasions, but i think going digital has affected how music use to be purchased and people download free music which affects the music trend worldwide for the most part. We adjust accordingly as this revolution unfolds.

ARE DIGITAL SINGLES VS. FULL ALBUMS THE FUTURE OF MUSIC? It’s seems like that’s the new trend.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS… changing with time and we we to adapt accordingly to survive or die.
