Electronic Alternative Rock act Latent Anxiety has joined the 10th IMAs. Check out his interview here!

HOMEBASE: Los Angeles, CA
GENRE: Electronic Alternative Rock
CATEGORIES ENTERED: Short Form Music Video
MUSIC VIDEO SUBMITTED: “Message from Hell”
LABEL: Delvian Records

HOW DID YOU BEGIN PLAYING MUSIC?
In the 70’s I was a choir singer and in the 80’s I founded a school rock band as front man. About 10 years ago I started playing guitar and writing my own music, first with acoustic guitars and vocals on a 4-track tape recorder. Then I quickly changed to electric guitars and better production tools. I’m also playing bass and who knows what comes next?

WHAT GENRES BEST DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC?
People say that Latent Anxiety has an innovative and sometimes experimental approach. I think it’s a fusion of different styles, hence Electronic Alternative Rock (EAR).

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND YOUR PROJECT NAME LATENT ANXIETY?
When finishing my first album “Perception” in 2005 and reflecting upon the song lyrics it became clear that most of them deal with problems in modern society, especially with a feeling of uncertainty towards the future, thus the name Latent Anxiety came up, which -by the way- has the same initials as the project’s hometown Los Angeles.

YOU ARE THE FACE OF LATENT ANXIETY, DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A SOLO ARTIST OR DO YOU HAVE A BAND BACKING YOU UP?
Latent Anxiety is a solo project with me as the producer, vocalist, guitarist and bassist but for gigs it would be great to have live support.

WHAT IS YOUR LIVE SETUP?
There are thoughts to tour the US and how to get it running but it is not clear yet when it will start.

DESCRIBE YOUR LATEST RELEASE IN 140 CHARACTERS OR LESS.
Latent Anxiety’s new album Suffocation is a sweet-and-sour, blood-pumping, heart-breaking and ironic-poetic song collection.

DID EVERYTHING GO AS PLANNED OR WERE THERE ANY ‘HAPPY ACCIDENTS?’
So far, the story of Latent Anxiety’s music has been a successful one because there are more and more fans joining in every day, the media receives it well and it has garnered several awards.

DID YOU USE ANY UNUSUAL EFFECTS OR INSTRUMENTS?
The concept of Latent Anxiety is to combine hard drums with edgy guitars, melodic synths and dark vocals. Since the third album “Reaction” all songs are also mixed in surround sound format. So you can pop the included surround sound CD into your home theater system and enjoy it even more.

DID FANS HELP FUND THIS PROJECT?
Fans are supporting Latent Anxiety all the time. Their love, passion, enthusiasm and feedback are what drives Latent Anxiety.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SUBMIT YOUR MUSIC VIDEO “MESSAGE FROM HELL”?
“Message From Hell” is the lead single from the new album “Suffocation” and a picture says more than a thousand tones…

Latent Anxiety’s music video for “Message From Hell” (Video PG-13)

WHAT IS THE VIDEO ABOUT?
It is a visualization of the song lyrics, which are based on Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Actually, it is -like all Latent Anxiety music videos- a short film, which in this case briefly describes the last days of the lead character. The colors were chosen to be similar to Roger Corman films.

WHAT SPECIAL EFFECTS DID YOU USE?
We had different paintings, which showed me -as Dorian Gray- turning into an evil old man. And when I finally destroy the horrible painting it goes on fire while I change into that evil old man with a lot of make-up.

WHAT WAS THE BUDGET?
At least I can say that the video budget significantly surpassed the album production costs.

DESCRIBE THE PROCESS OF FILMING THIS.
After 3 months of scripting and pre-production a full filming team shot the music video in just 1 day with 16 mm cameras in a heritage location. It was really a lot of fun to act in this video and to work with so many dedicated and talented people.

WHO IS SITTING IN YOUR AUDIENCE?
The fans of Latent Anxiety are people of all ages who like modern rock music with a refreshing electronic touch.

HAVE YOU EVER HUNG OUT WITH ONE OF YOUR MUSICAL HEROES?
(laughing) I’m still waiting for Eddie Van Halen to knock on my door and teach me some of his guitar tricks but he didn’t show up yet…really admire him.

WHAT DO YOU COLLECT AND WHY?
I collect movies, almost all kinds, love them, always have.

WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD THAT WOULD SURPRISE FANS?
Well, there’s some music from the 80’s New German Wave (Joachim Witt, Spliff, Falco, Nena) and also songs from the 70’s Glam Rock Era (The Sweet, T-Rex, Slade, David Bowie).

WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THE FALL AND WINTER OF 2010? 2011?
“Suffocation” is already available on iTunes and will be in record stores this Winter. The next album “Liberation” will come in 2011, a Best Of Latent Anxiety compilation with 14 remixed and remastered tracks and 3 new unpublished bonus songs in a high-tech media package.

FINISH THIS SENTENCE: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS…constantly changing to give more opportunities to talents and more choices to listeners.

HOW CAN FANS FOLLOW YOU? On Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and many other sites.

WHERE IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE? On iTunes, Amazon and in all major record stores
