A masterful songstress who infuses jazz/funk melodies with the vocal prowess of a bygone era, Nisha Asnani has played to standing-room crowds at New York City venues including the Bitter End, Ella Lounge, Symphony Space, Cafe Vivaldi, Googies, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, The National Black Theater, Rockwood Music Hall and the Brooklyn Museum. Nisha’s captivating tunes blend heart-wrenching emotion, powerful backbeats, tongue-in-cheek wit and wildly danceable rhythms. The elegant structure of her songs reflects Nisha’s intellectual sophistication, while the vibrant energy and bright harmonic shadings of her compositions reveal her playful and passionate sensibility. Nisha recently released her debut EP, On and Off, (produced by industry legend Veit Renn) before a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd at the Bitter End. Due to the EP’s enthusiastic reception, Nisha was offered her own channel on Pandora.com. Her performances feature soaring strings, a funkified horn section and grooves from a tight-knit veteran rhythm section.
Nisha is the current program manager of Nuyorican Poets Cafe and where she also curates and hosts the monthly Songwriter Slam.
