Who are your influences?: Harry Nilsson, The Beatles, Sly and the Family Stone, Led Zeppelin, Cheap Trick, The Move, Terry Reid, Duke Ellington, Ry Cooder, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Roy Buchanan, Jeff Beck, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Leon Russell, The Kinks, The Zombies, Dr. John,  and Moondog.

Describe your nominated work: just another collection of new original tunes.

Did you use any unusual effects or instruments in this recording?: Stylophone, marxophone, cuartro, mellotron, tuba, harpsichord, theremin,  and the kitchen sink.

Were there any happy accidents while in the studio, or did everything go as planned?: Nothing went as planned, still trying to sort it out.

How did you raise the funds for this project? Sold my soul a long time ago.

How long do you expect it will take to recoup your out-of-pocket recording expenses?: Probably the rest of my life.

Why did you choose to submit this work to The 12th IMAs?: I want the music to be heard,  maybe this will help.

What’s your definition of success and how will you know when you’ve achieved it?: Already there , trying not to let it slip away.

How will you leverage your IMA honors to achieve your career goals?: Hopefully the nominations will open the slammed doors.

Who’s sitting in your audience and what makes your fans unique?: Mostly other songwriters …and my parents.

What is your guilty pleasure on the road? Finding strange musical instruments to bring back to my laboratory, “Old Soul” .

Are there any songs you wish you wrote and why?: “If I had a Sister” by The Dogs . Best tune.

What artists are you listening to that would surprise your fans?: The Supremes. (Some of the best bass lines I’ve ever heard are on those recordings. )

How do you discover new music? At the diner in Catskill. They play great stuff – without meaning to.

Do you buy music or are you content with streaming?: I make it.

How will musicians make a living if fans continue to expect music to be free?: They won’t.

What don’t fans/audiences understand about the music industry today?: When intellectual property loses it’s value it’s a sad moment humanity. Really good original music, to me , is intellectual property at it’s best.

Are digital singles/EPs vs. full albums the future?: I just finished producing a 30 song tribute to Harry Nilsson involving 30 artists . It’s going to be released in 2 volumes.

Finish this sentence: The music industry is…no place to hang your hat, but somebody’s gotta do it.

What do you have in the works for the upcoming year?: Promoting the Johnny Society record, writing and recording a new one, recording a new record with The Wiyos, and stuff .
