Artistry Has Its Awards

Earning an Independent Music Award is more than just a badge of distinction.

The IMAs is a unique international program that actively promotes winners and nominees to more than 50 million music fans and industry including programmers, talent buyers, film, TV & gaming music supervisors, print, online and broadcast media and other industry gatekeepers.

The IMAs receive submissions from more than 70 countries on 6 continents. Honors are awarded in more than 50 music, video and design categories. New awards added to the 9th program include:
Love Song, Concept Album and Long Form Music Video.

A complete list of categories is available at:

The IMAs create opportunities for releases traditionally ignored by mainstream gatekeepers, mass media & big box retailers. The program honors artists who follow their own muse regardless of whether they have previous major label experience or have only self-released or appear on independent labels.

Past winners and nominees include a diverse mix of independent Hip-Hop, Gospel and R&B’s talent such as: Speech, Animate Objects, Common Market, Ike Turner, Casual Projects, Jaime Lidell, Brentley Willis, Sweet Honey In The Rock, El Guante, Entell, Intervision, The Paschall Brothers, Ernest Pugh and Margot Blanche.

Winners are determined by a distinguished panel of influential artist and industry judges that include A-list artists, club and festival talent buyers, syndicated radio hosts, music journalists, film, TV & gaming music supervisors and producers. Submissions are evaluated purely on artistic merit.

Uniting Fans and Bands

Regarded as the awards program for independent bands and fans, The Independent Music Awards features several program elements that shorten the distance between bands and new audiences.

In addition to judge-determined evaluations, each year tens of thousands of fans from around the globe discover new artists and cast their votes at the IMA Vox Pop Jukebox. The winners of the ‘people’s voice’ poll receive additional IMA marketing support.

The popular IMA Winner’s CD compilation, “Now Hear This” is promoted to millions of music consumers at sites such as eMusic and PureVolume.

The deadline for submissions is August 21, 2009; winners and nominees will be promoted throughout 2010.
